Brent Knoll Riding Club

Newsletter September 2007

Hello All and welcome to Summer! Well it finally arrived, better late than never! Welcome to new members, we now have 74, so we'd love to see you all at the Hoof It Dog Walk & Cream Tea, AGM and Christmas do!

The Open Show finally got to run when the ground eventually dried up. We didn't get off to the best of starts as the toilets hadn't arrived!! I had booked and paid for them myself they just forgot to bring them and guess what, they don't work Sundays!! Committee member Sally Webb, came to the rescue with a friend of a friend finding a number for someone else. The Tack shop hadn't arrived so I rang them at 9.15 to be told "Oh you were on my list to call, we won't be coming lorry broke on Wednesday" pity they didn't call me on Wednesday! Well things could only get better and they did.

We had a slow start to the day, but this picked up quickly and ridden classes were well supported and the Workers must have been a record entry as the Championship didn't take place till nearly 5pm and there were about 10 combinations came forward, which is always nice for the judge.

A big Thank You to those who helped to make it all run smoothly and worked hard throughout the day. Sue Francis was lead rider on Secretary's tent, the rest of the team riders were Claire Nightingale on Entries, Rhona Glyn on Steward, Jayne Millard, on Honary Member (as a mother of a member) Lyn Nettleton on Steward again and Bryony Allen on Another Steward, committee members Bev, Laura, Celia were all riding Fill That Gap, (for the inevitable no shows) and I was riding A Bit of Everything! Non BKRC but very much a great help as we couldn't have managed without them dong the clear round ring were my friends Roy and Nicky. The SJ ring was manned by Nikki Caville, (before going to work!) and Carar Tyer. Sally sorted the dressage with help from friend Chris. We bought our own gymkhana equipment this year as we have to beg/borrow from PC's, so Mark & Jo who ran the gymkhana had lovely new equipment to play with!

Members who had a good day were, Pat & John Drinkwater with a clean sweep in the Shetlands class, taking 1st,2nd,3rd. Pat went on to take 3rd with Eden Panis in the M & M 1,2,3 yo class, with Becky Hall 2nd with Blaencila Nap. Lisa Lawrence & Celeste Belladonna were 3rd in the 1,2,3 yo class. Tara Millard & Arachnophobia won the Ridden Foreign breeds and was 2nd in the In Hand Foreign Breeds. Sophie Bridges & Lapiz Lazuli were 2nd In Hand Riding Horse & 3rd in both the Best Homebred & Turnout classes. Laura Boobyer & Storm was 2nd in Novice SJ then went on to win the WH Nov class and also won Prelim 12.Lisa Fawcett & Dunraven were Best Member in the W & T Test. Dot Godfrey & Claverdon Courageous were 3rd in the Ridden Arab class. Lynn Pugsley & Izzy were 2nd in Ridden Coloured and 3rd in both Best Riding Horse & Best RC Horse. Amanda Jarvis & Harry were 2nd in the Ridden Cob class, Barbara Down & Pip (22yrs) were 2nd in the In Hand veteran class. Well done to all. Many Thanks to Lyn & Andy Pugsley for helping to clear up. It's a BIG job setting up/clearing away and we could really do with some help, it's only once a year and "Many hands make light work".The money helps subsidise the lessons & events for BK members ie Members Show, pay for club equipment and your food at the AGM.

We were unable to run the CT that was going to be run after the original show date.

Supper is provided by the club, so please fill in your form and return it to me, (if you order food please make sure you attend as otherwise it's a waste of club money).
