Brent Knoll Riding Club Members’ Dressage

Report and results by Maggie Fawcett:

Brent Knoll Riding Club held its first members’ dressage day of 2009 on Easter Sunday 12 April in lovely weather within the spectacular environment and indoor facilities at Stretcholt Farm.

A total of 21 members, with horses at varying levels of experience and training, competed in the tests which ranged from Walk and Trot to Elementary; ably and sympathetically judged by Jane Tippetts and Di Higgins.

Included in the entry fees were delicious refreshments provided by Jayne Millard. In addition to rosettes to 6th place, Easter eggs or chocolate novelties were given to the first and second in each class.

We were pleased to welcome several new members and visitors, some of whom, lured by the friendliness and encouragement given to all competitors, expressed their intention to join. Hopefully we shall see them at our next members’ dressage day in June.

Area 12 SJ report – by Laura Cavill

Thankfully as the competition had been re-scheduled outdoors at Pontispool  the weather was actually ok. We only managed to send a team of 3 due to the change in date and we all squeezed in to Carar’s lorry to get there.

The runners and riders were: Me on Frankie, Carar Tyer on She’s the Village Rumour and Jess Parker on Lets Get wicked.

The first round went well, Carar and I posted a clear round while Jess had an unlucky pole. The second round was raised, including my first ever triple bar. Carar went first and had an unlucky pole, I was in next, missed a stride and took a pole, jumped the triple bar fine and then Frank took umbridge at the pale and airy planks at fence 9 which caused a lot of problems. Unfortunately 2 stops resulted in a stack of time faults too. Jess then lifted the side by riding an excellent clear round. As we only had a team of 3 Franks round had to count leaving us on a score of 38, 13th of 18 teams. The competition was won by Midsomerset as the only team to finish on 0 penalties and Taunton took the second qualifying spot.
