Area 12 Festival of the Hunter Combined Training

9 March 2020 Pontispool
"A fun afternoon at BRC Area 12 Combined Training where Moinor thought he did a great job of keeping me safe from Trolls in the dressage though I beg to differ and thought he could have payed a bit more attention to what he was supposed to be doing!!! Some nice moments though to score 33 penalties!  A little strong in the show jumping resulting in taking the first part of the double out earning us 5th place so came home with a lovely frilly!!!"

Area 12 Senior Novice & Intermediate Show Jumping

23 February 2020 KSEC
Having already been postponed due to Storm Dennis, the weather at today's show jumping competition was only marginally better! With the wind howling and the rain coming down, team stalwarts, Amanda Holmes and Naomi Kaye, kept flying the flag for BKRC!  It was a little alarming to see the ground pole of the warm up jump get lifted off the ground by the wind as Amanda and Moiner approached!
Going first for BKRC, Amanda and Moiner did a lovely round with just an unlucky 4 faults. Naomi followed on the very normally consistent Jazz, and surprised us all when coming to the end of a really smart round, he just point blank refused to jump one of the fences.

Picture
However, the day was a mixed bag for all competitors, some jumping double clears and some having rather awful falls. All riders and horses were thankfully OK, but it's never easy to be the rider in after a rather shocking horse tumble, so Amanda Holmes and Moiner did well to put it out of their minds and continue to jump a solid round, a slight clip on the first fence just costing them 4 faults.

So whilst there were no frillies today, we were really proud of our members for representing the club in horrid weather conditions and given the number of horse and rider falls, we were particularly glad to see them both home safely!

Intermediate Winter Dressage Qualifiers

17 October 2019
Our members headed back to KSEC, this time for the Intermediate Dressage Qualifiers. In this competition, one member rides a Prelim test, two ride a Novice test and the fourth team member rides an Elementary test.  Tests can also be ridden individually.

It took a long time for the scores to finally come out but we came away with team 4th. After a bad car day, Emma Pearce finished 2nd in Prelim 14, Amanda Holmes was 5th, Laura Richardon was 4th (after a trip to A&E to get her finger stitched up!) Anna Lewis was 3rd in Elementary 44 and Mel was 2nd also in Elementary 44.

Another fantastic result from the wonderful members representing BKRC. Thank you and Well Done!

A win for our Dressage Team gains qualification for the Winter Nationals!

October 2019
The Novice Winter Dressage Area qualifiers took place at KSEC and BKRC's brilliant members posted yet another successful team outing. Emma Pearce, Kate Lewis, Alys Matravers and Rachael won the team competition and qualified for the Winter Championships. What a fabulous start to the season for our members! Well Done!

There were more placings to come individually:
  • Emma Pearce - 1st (Prelim)
  • Alys Matravers - 1st (Novice)
  • Kate Lewis - 4th (Prelim)
  • Jenny - 4th (Prelim)
  • Ceila Lewis - 5th (Prelim)

2018/19 Area competition results

Another fantastic year for Brent Knoll Riding Club

If we thought it was going to be hard to top our performance in the 2017/2018 Riding Club season, we were mistaken! The BRC competition year, which spans from October and culminates in the final National Champs at Lincoln in September, saw even more wins and successes from Team BKRC!
The season kicked off last October with a WIN at the Winter Area 12 Novice Dressage Qualifiers for Carol Quantrill and was followed up with qualifications for BKRC member Julie Richardson to the Winter National Championships at Hartbury in BOTH the Intermediate Show Jumping and Dressage competitions with her Hebbens Emmerly.

The FOTH Eventers' Challenge suffered entries as the date moved and moved to accommodate bad weather, and with an opening run on grass at the end of March, our team put in an admirable effort but did not qualify. Qualification for this event still evading us!

May's Area qualifier for Dressage to Music saw Alys Matravers and the wonderful Fancy Pants achieving 2nd in the Novice Dressage and 1ST  in the Elementary and qualification for the finals at Bury Farm in August which they also WON!!!

A win for Committee member Laura Richardson at the Area 12 Horse Trials at Bicton gained her qualification to the BRC National Horse Trials Championships - the second year in a row that BKRC has been represented at this Champs!

But getting through the the BRC National Champs didn't stop there! A win for both the Senior Intermediate dressage team in June and the 70cm show jump team in July, meant BKRC attended Lincoln for the 3rd year in a row, and this year brought home Team 3rd in the Show Jumping, proving we are the best in the South West! Well done to all the members who represented us in both phases - Dave Luff, Claire Shakespeare, Emma Pearce, Katie Lloyd, Mel Allen, Ros Burridge, Rachael Chick and Kaye Harding.

And whilst our Senior Prelim team didn't qualify for Lincoln at the Area competition, they did qualify for the South West and Wales Riding Club championship at Hartbury, where we secured individual 8th and 9th. Well done again to the team representing BKRC - Kim Payne (8th) Ros Burridge (9th) Katie Lloyd and Kelly Logan.

So we end the 2018/2019 season once again very proud of Team BKRC and very proud of all the individuals who represented the club at both Area and National competitions. BRING ON 2020!

It was another BKRC WIN! at the BRC Dressage to Music National Championships, Bury Farm

28 September 2019
Well done Alys Matravers and Fancy Pants who won the Novice DTM class with a whooping 76% !🌟🏆

South West and Wales RC Championships, Hartpury

17 August 2019
Our team of four prelim riders headed up to Hartpury to represent BKRC and Area 12. The South West and Wales, is a Championship run for BRC clubs in 5 Areas, namely areas 9, 12, 15, 18 and 19.
With three arenas running side by side all day in the lovely outdoor arena at Hartpury, there was plenty of competition. Team members Ros Burridge and Katie Lloyd were first up in the morning. Ros and her homebred boy Zest delivered a lovely test scoring 67.5% to take home 9th in their section. With Katie Lloyd and SeaLord, producing a very creditable 62.65% test
The afternoon then passed to remaining team members Kelly Logan and Kim Payne. With Kelly and a rather introverted Freddie scoring just 62.83%, it was Kim Payne and Marley who brought home the best BKRC team score of the day - 67.69% and 8th place giving Team BKRC another frilly!

Well done ladies!

BRC National Horse Trials Championships, Swalcliffe

3 August 2019
Congratulations to our hard working committee member - Laura Richardson - for their individual completion at the Horse Trials Championships. Here's Laura's account of the day:
"Today Sunny and I competed at the BRC National Horse Trials Championship at Swalcliffe.
The day started very badly as I was woken up at 3am with a horrendous migraine, nausea and sickness, to the point I could not talk or move..!! After A LOT of drugs I managed to get my self dressed. I thought I might only manage to sort sunny out and had  written the day off as I was so sick, but m
y amazing sister stepped in and did all the heavy work.

I managed the dressa
ge test still trying not to be sick and got a score of 32.3, which was pretty good considering. I started to feel a bit better by the time we got to the Show Jumping phase and we had just had an unlucky 4 faults. BUT in the XC, we went clear inside the time!!
 😅
Sunny is just amazing and looks after me, even when I'm riding like a bag of potatoes with a migraine. We finished 16th in my section (losing 5th place due to the 4 faults SJ) - it was tight at the top!

Thanks to Brent knoll Riding Club for allowing me to represent the Club. Sorry no ribbons this time."

Area 12 Show Jumping Qualifier at KSEC

13 July 2019

It was another WIN - for BKRCs 70cm Show jumping team and another qualification to the National Championships at Lincoln.
With the first round on grass at 8.40am and the second round in the arena at 9.10 am, the team and individual rider representing KSEC not only had an early start but had to hot foot it around two courses before even getting on board. This meant there were a couple of sat nav errors for two of the riders but thankfully these were quickly corrected and didn't cost the team the win.

The first round on the oddly 'springy' grass at KSEC caused more faults than normal, but in the arena, BKRC's team pulled out 3 clears, with the other team member and individual rider having just 4 faults.

We not only came home with a team win, but had individual placings for:
  • Katie Lloyd and Lord (2nd)
  • Dave Luff and Prim&Proper (3rd)
  • Emma Pearce and Star (4th)

Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the team above, so you'll have to excuse the only pics I have which is of myself and Freddie on the day.

Area 12 Summer Dressage Qualifiers - Yeovil showground

30 June 2019
With a couple of last minute changes due to horse illness, our team of dressage superstars pulled out all the stops to bring home a win and qualification for the Championships at Lincoln for the 3rd year in the row!

Each of our members on the senior open team won their classes. A massive well done to Emma Pearce and Star and Committee Member Carol Quantril and Cormoy's Lad, but particular note should also go to team members:
Picture
  • Mel Allen - who rode Kim Payne's Marley at the last minute. Marley did his first ever Elementary class with Mel and they won! Credit to all three.
  • But that's not all, Ros and Zest (who have only just been reunited and Zest only just back from injury, who were also in the prelim team) literally learnt the Novice test at the show and still came an impressive 4th in their class!
The prelim team - down to just 3 team members - narrowly missed the win and qualification for Lincoln but did qualify for the South West and Wales Riding Club Championship at Hartpury!!

Go team BKRC!!

Bicton Horse Trials - Area 12 Qualifier

9 June 2019
Well done to our BKRC team for braving the weather (not summer weather at all!) to bring home team 3rd, with individual placings of 1st (Laura Richardson) and 6th (Rachael Chick)

Laura's 1st place earns her a qualification to the National finals at Swalcliffe in August! Good luck Laura and Sunny!

Dressage to Music - Area Qualifier

27 May 2019
It was a great day at KSEC for the Area 12 Dressage to Music Qualifiers, with Team BKRC out in force!

Alys Matravers was 2nd AND 4th in the Novice Music class, with Carol Quantrill taking 6th [the winner was on a stunning 81%]

Spurred on by the challenge, Alys then went on to WIN the ELEMENTARY class with a whopping 71% qualifying for the finals at Bury Farm. Well done!!

Festival of the Hunter Eventers' Challenge

23 March 2019 - Yeovil Show Ground
The winter weather certainly wreaked havoc on the Area 12 Schedule with Winter Qualifying competitions moving rapidly into the Spring months without the joy of the spring weather!

Three BKRC members represented the club at the Festival of the Hunter(FOTH) Eventers Challenge competition - Amanda Holmes and Naomi Kaye competing in the 80cm and Julie Richardson competing in the 90cm class.
Picture
First to go was Julie Richardson and Hebbens Emmerley, who produced a lovely double clear for 3rd place.
With a very busy - and buzzy - warm up, the first fence in the arena caught a slightly distracted Mr Moiner by surprise, who went on to produce a lovely round after for Amanda Holmes. It was then the turn of Naomi Kaye and Jazz who ticked around beautifully but just outside of the frillies.

Winter Novice and Intermediate Show Jumping Qualifiers, KSEC

24 February 2019

Well done to our two BKRC members Amanda Williams and Julie Richardson who represented BKRC in the Area 12 Show Jumping Qualifiers in the Novice and Intermediate classes on 24 February 2019 at KSEC.

It was a gloriously sunny day (particularly for February!!) and the girls jumped brilliantly with Julie Richardson and Emm getting an individual qualification for the Intermediate Championships at Bury Farm in April!

Winter Novice Dressage qualifiers

7 October 2018
Two teams set out on a very cold and wet October day to take on the Area qualifiers.

Our teams came a very respectable 4th and 5th, with member Carol Quantrill  (pictured) wining the Prelim Champion on 69.83% and finishing overall 4th in the Novice class with another 69.3% on her super cob.

Well done to all our lovely members.

2017/18 Area competition results

2018 - Brent Knoll RC Riding High!

It’s been an exceptional year for us at Brent Knoll Riding Club. A small club of just 60 members, our whole premise has always been about fun and encouraging our members to get involved rather than focusing on the championships.

However, after our first taste of success in July 2017 when we won the Area 12 Senior Novice and Senior Intermediate team dressage, qualifying for and attending the National Finals in Lincoln, it seems our members have got the Nationals bug!

Team stalwarts, Ros Burridge, Rachael Chick and Julie Richardson have had their foot to the floor this season and accompanied by Naomi Kaye, Kaye Harding, Mel Allen, Dave Luff and Emma Mellor, have had all the 2018 championships firmly in their sights.

After securing individual qualifications for the National Winter Show Jumping (Julie Richardson) and National FOTH combined training (Kaye Harding), the team narrowly missed qualifying for the FOTH Eventers Challenge championship at Aston-Le-Walls, coming 2nd to Quantock Riding Club at the Area qualifier back in February.

Spurred on, the team went on to win the HT80 at Bicton in June, qualifying for the National Horse Trials in Swalcliffe (where superstar partnership Julie Richardson and Hebbens Emmely, finished 3rd in their section and 7th overall).

Determined to attend the Lincoln National Championships again, the BKRC teams challenged and took home the Area 12 Show jumping Senior team hattrick winning the Senior 70cm, the Senior 90cm and the Senior Style Jumping 75cm team events. In answer to the clubs show jumpers, our senior novice dressage team – Lauren Reason, Rachel Kyd and Kaye Harding – went on to win the Area Dressage and qualified for Lincoln.

BKRC Chairman Amanda Williams says “We are so, so proud of our team’s recent successes..”

See all our posts below cheering on our members:

Area 12 Dressage Qualifiers - Yeovil

22 July 2018
The BKRC teams did the club proud at the area dressage qualifiers yesterday in some testing conditions.

The senior prelim team Kaye Harding, Lauren Reason and Rachel Kyd gained a team first qualifying for the National Championships!

The senior open team Mel Allen, Kimberley Payne, Lizzie G-P and Gemma King gained a team second just missing out on a team qualification by a few marks! Although we believe that the whole team may have qualified as individual riders for the National Championships.

A massive well done and congratulations to everyone who rode and to the ponies who coped so well in tough conditions!

Area 12 Style & Show Jumping Qualifier, KSEC

10 July 2018
Thank you to all those members that helped at the Area 12 Style & Show Jumping competition we hosted on Sunday 8th July at KSEC. Without your support at these events, we could not run them.  With records being set as it being the hottest day so far this year, we still had a great day.
We'd entered teams for the senior 70cm, the senior 90cm and we thought that this year, we’d ‘have a go’ at the style jumping.  Our Club competitors did fantastically … with three teams entered … and three teams winning their classes, despite the fact none of the team have ever done style jumping before, and really didn’t know what to expect until the day!

Congratulations to all the team members and our individual entry, who came 6th in a very strong class.

And a special thank you to our fab non riding supporters, who stood in the rain giving encouragement. I feel so proud to be a member of such a supportive club. 👍
